Welcome to my latest stab at the quasi-art of bloggery!
Last night I watched “The Inn of the Sixth Happiness.” I’m pleased to report to you that it’s a pretty keen movie. The title of the film refers to a traditional Chinese expression in which one wishes someone else “the five happiness-es,” none of which I actually recall. The sixth happiness was a happiness of one’s own personal determination. The protagonist in the film’s sixth happiness was loving and blessing poor people in rural China. I’d like my personal sixth happiness to involve loving God and others, too.
I’ve begun a number of blogs, all of which have fallen by the wayside. I’m impressed by my various array of friends who have been able to keep their blogs updated with substantial discipline, so much so that I’ll give it a try again. BUT THIS TIME I intend to make blog entries daily for the next thirty days. I’m hoping that it will give me more oompf in pursuing other disciplines in life.
I started to think to myself, “Hmm….what have I been disciplined at in life?” First I thought I’d been pretty disciplined at eating and sleeping. Then my mind leaped to the fact that I indeed have MORE disciplines than that, like waking up, going to work, and going to the bathroom. That would leave making my discipline of making a blog entry every day for thirty days “The Sixth Discipline.” This would have been pretty cool, like the sixth happiness, something of my own determination…..but then I thought of bathing myself (at least daily) and feeding and walking my dog. That pretty much turned the whole sixth thing on it’s metaphorical ear. SO my thirty days of bloggery will be a new discipline amid a veritable sea of semi-cognizant disciplines. Being that this number of disciplines is an unnumbered number, I shall call it “N.” And yes, I know that none of the disciplines I’ve mentioned aren’t especially considered disciplines. It’s such a spiffy and impressive word, though.
